Marvel Rivals US team faces significant layoffs

Are you a fan of Marvel Rivals? Well, there’s some unfortunate news coming out of the US team as they are undergoing layoffs. According to reports on LinkedIn, employees from Marvel Rivals have been let go from their positions. Jack Burrows, a level designer, and Thaddeus Sasser, a game director at NetEase, both expressed their disappointment on social media after being laid off.

The layoffs have sparked outrage among players, with many expressing their frustration through negative reviews on Steam. It’s surprising to see such drastic measures taken for a game that has gained popularity so quickly, boasting 20 million players shortly after its launch.

Despite its success, Marvel Rivals is facing stiff competition in the live-service gaming sector, where games like Call of Duty and Fortnite dominate. The game has managed to keep a spot in the top 5 based on weekly active users on major platforms, including Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam, even reaching number three on Steam’s most-played games chart.

Thaddeus Sasser summed up the situation well, calling the industry “weird” in his LinkedIn post. It’s a stark reminder of the challenges faced by developers and the volatile nature of the gaming industry. We can only hope that the US team at Marvel Rivals will eventually find new opportunities and continue to contribute their talents to the gaming world.
