LG recently introduced a 18 inch paper-thin TV which can be bent into a 3cm diameter tube without affecting the function of the screen. And the company said that this was just a beginning, a larger and transparent OLED panel of more than 60 inch would be coming by 2017.
‘We are confident that by 2017, we will successfully develop an Ultra HD flexible and transparent OLED panel of more than 60 inches, which will have transmittance of more than 40 percent and a curvature radius of 100R, thereby leading the future display market.’said In-Byung Kang, Senior Vice President and Head of the R&D Center at LG Display.
Rolling up the screen you can carry the TV with you and watch any program on the go. While at a small scale, the bendy screen can be used in many new ways, like a super-thin tablet, or some cool wearable gadgets etc.
Though LG claimed that this was just a start, we have a feeling that the first ultrathin TV won’t come cheap due to the fact that it bills the 55-inch “pencil thin”OLED TV for $9,000. So if you’re interested in the new paper-thin TV. You should probably start saving money today!
